Okay, so the infamous question. Who’s side are you on: Marvel or DC? We live in an amazing world where comic books and superheros exist. They bring us countless hours of entertainment, inspiration, joy, and imagination. To make things even better, they are starting to come to life more and more. The Golden Years of film and TV are among us, and every large to small character has a chance to shine.
With the hundreds of heroes and villains that have spawned from the pages of comic books, there comes two main factions: Marvel and DC. Over the years the debate has been widely discussed, some have valid points between stories and characters; others have just the desire and interests in the world they live in. For me personally, I am a Marvel fan until the end of time.
There’s nothing wrong with DC. You have Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, the rest of the Justice League; iconic villains such as The Joker, Darkseid, Deathstroke…the list goes on and on. They have a wide array of wonderful stories, and what I do love about the DC Universe is that they are not afraid to go dark. I’ve read some pretty messed up Batman stories (Death of the Family for example). But for some reason, it doesn’t satisfy me like Marvel does.
Maybe it’s because I grew up with Marvel more. I grew up watching my all-time favorite hero Spider-Man on TV. I had action figures, saw the movies, read the comics, and felt that I could relate to Peter Parker. Let’s just say I wanted to BE Spider-Man. But when I was able to see the bigger picture and see the world he lived in, it just made it so much greater to enjoy. I grew to love others with a passion like Captain America, The Hulk, The Punisher, Daredevil, Nightcrawler, Wolverine…I just can’t explain it. There’s no other feeling than being able to relate or admire these characters for what they do or who they are. Seeing them come to life is even better, and I look forward to see what’s in store for the future.
Regardless, between Marvel and DC there are too many good points to be made about either side. I will admit, DC’s TV line up is pretty epic right now. Between The Flash, Arrow, Gotham, and the new addition of Legends of Tomorrow, Marvel has to catch up. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is fun and all, but nothing against the others. They do win with their Netflix shows however; both Daredevil and Jessica Jones are fantastic, and it’s about to get a lot bigger and better. Marvel beats DC over films in my opinion, and solely because DC has lacked pushing films out. The Dark Knight trilogy was very successful and great, but ultimately Marvel now has a large array of films that connect together and will keep expanding. The DC Cinematic Universe will really start after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and has a large line-up of films that I hope and pray do well! I think their overall advantage will simply be the tone and story of each film as Marvel can play lightly sometimes.
This isn’t a post to say who’s better, just to say who I like more. I want to know though, are you with Marvel or DC?
