This Week’s News Round-Up

Here’s a round-up of all the new and noteworthy news in the entertainment world that you may have missed this week:

Power Rangers Movie Begins Production



The new reboot of the infamous series The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has officially begun production and released their first still above. The film stars Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games franchise) as Rita Repulsa. These teenagers with attitude will band together on the big screen on March 24, 2017.

The Dark Tower Movie Gets Its Cast Membersdarktowerheader2

Stephen King’s The Dark Tower novel series is finally making its way to the big screen and it looks like Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba are set to star in it. Sony currently hast the film set to be released on February 17, 2017.

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters Trailer Drops

Sony Pictures revealed the first look at our new Ghostbusters film directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This new film will be the start of a new franchise and releases July 15, 2016,

Sony Reviving Venom Spin-Off Movie


Reports indicate that Sony Pictures are looking to bringing a Venom solo film back in the works. However, the new film WILL NOT be a part of the MCU which is featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man now. So what does this mean for Spider-Man and his most iconic villain? Will they not be allowed to be together? Time will only tell.

New Writer For Sandman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt Exits


Sandman has been trying to lift off the ground for years now, and since 2013 Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been attached to direct and star in the film with Neil Gaiman as executive producer. This week the movie has made significant changes with news that a new writer is being brought in from New Line Cinema for the adaptation. With that news, Levitt announced on Facebook that he will no longer be involved with the project after Warner Bros gave the film to New Line as they do not see “eye to eye” on how Sandman should/could be brought to life. Bittersweet news for the film, but at least it’s still on track.

Other fun news features: Sylvester Stallone possibly appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as a cameo; Michael Fassbender already set to do Assassins Creed 2; Suicide Squad 2 reportedly in development for 2017 production; 23 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover officially in the works; Tomb Raider reboot film will heavily be influenced by the new video game series; and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for Wii U has finally been released!
