Plus an interview about the movie Unbreakable being filmed at the store.
If you live in or near the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, you may not have known that a secret treasure lies within full of fun, entertainment, good people, and lots of comics.
The Ontario St. Comic Shop is a shop that has plenty to offer for any newcomer into pop culture and comic books as well as the old school collectors. William Fink, AKA The Captain, runs the show over there and has been successfully grown the store into a hot spot in Philadelphia.
These days it’s hard to find a good store that not only has good people working and knows what they are talking about, but also fair prices and fun and creative ways to attract customers. Through the shop’s Facebook page, The Captain holds weekly auctions for buyers to bid on hot items around his store. These items are all sorts of great stuff; anywhere from vintage old collectibles, new books, signed merchandise, and more.
Did we mention that the movie Unbreakable by M. Night Shyamalan was filmed there also? That’s right, if you remember the scene with Samuel L. Jackson knocking things over in a comic shop and finding that awesome book, that is Ontario! The Captain was able to hang out on set with the filmmakers for the entire shoot. Recently on this past Free Comic Book Day event, we got to hang out at the store and talk to The Captain (and his secret friend, Free Comic Book Day Man) and chat about the store and what it was like for the film being made there.
For more information about the store check out their Facebook page as it’s continuously being updated and they always get back to you if you have any questions. Better yet, if you’re around Philly be sure to just go check them out!
