With Ruben Fleischer to direct the film!
Some breaking news today as we got a major announcement for the new Venom solo movie from Sony Pictures. Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises) has officially been cast to play the symbiote with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) to direct the film! Production is set to start this fall for an October 5, 2018 release.

Although lots of excitement around the movie is swirling around the internet, Venom is strictly a part of Sony’s own superhero franchise and will NOT be spin-off from the current MCU Spider-Man. Sony is also currently in talks to adapt a Silver Sable & Black Cat film.
Time will tell if there will be ANOTHER Spider-Man in the ever lasting Marvel franchises (Sony, Disney, Fox, can’t we all just get along?), but at least we do know that we’ll get the proper Venom treatment unlike the horrendous Topher Grace version in Spider-Man 3. There have been rumors also speculating that this new take will be like a horror film with maybe even an R rating as well.
